Torso (1962)

Torso is reminiscent of a vertical composition abstracted from the Nine Muses, namely from an original dramatic draft of Melpomene. The shape of the statue symbolizes a violently cut- down sapling, and was modeled in memory of the obliteration of the village of Lidice (Liditz) by the German occupation in 1942.
